Platinum is the king of precious metals – hard, white and precious. Combined with aircraft titanium it becomes an indestructible ring for a man. Although the cost of platinum is high – you certainly get what you pay for. Out of all the precious metals only palladium comes close. Both palladium wedding rings and platinum are naturally white – unlike white gold which is actually grey – and is often rhodium plated to make it look white. As a wedding band for a man, or a woman, platinum is fantastic.

All the other golds are so much softer than platinum. Unless you buy a really chunky wedding ring in gold, the chances of the shank thinning over the years are high – and if you are an active person, sports such as windsurfing and squash will deform a gold wedding ring (not to mention scratch and dent it). Whilst platinum will scratch it does take a lot more abuse without deforming or scratching – even titanium will scratch if you lift weights without gloves.
